In 1998 Cork doctor Dr. Margaret O'Regan was censured by the Irish Medical Council for prescribing hormone therapy to transgender people in Ireland, which was seen
to be in contravention of the Medical Council's rules.
Dr. O'Regan was a trans ally who provided support for the Irish transgender community in the 1990s.
Dr. O'Regan was suspended for one month and ordered not to have controlled drugs in her possession.
