A 5 page "Media News Release" statement by the Irish Family Planning Association [I.F.P.A], dated 16 May 1990, regarding the launch of a one hour documentary about Irish people living with HIV/AIDS in Ireland, entitled "Stories from the Silence". Directed by Mr Alan Gilsenan, a film maker with Yellow Asylum Films. Statement addressed 15, Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1. States documentary is scheduled to be broadcasted on R.T.É 1 [Raidió Teilifís Éireann] at 10.10 pm on Thursday 31st May. Mentions the preparation of a separate AIDS education video and notes for schools that will be made available in September 1990. Acknowledges the voluntary work of the documentary filmmakers, Yellow Asylum Films, with the assistance of Windmill Lane Pictures. Notes the documentary was launched by Dr Noel Browne, former Minister for Health, with reference to Browne's speech where he sees "similarities between the public attitude toward tuberculosis in its day [1950s] and AIDS today. The social stigma associated with either of these diseases is difficult to convey to those who have not felt it first hand." Includes comments from Ms Clare Watson and Mr Frank Vaughan, on behalf of AIDS Action Alliance. Text of speech given by Dr Browne included on final page.
