Description

First page is a Frontline news article by Liam Fay from Hot Press magazine, entitled "French Letter Day!" and dated 2-13 February, 1992 (handwritten marginalia). Opens with a definition of "Civil disobedience" and states that, "In the Ireland of the 1990's, however, people have been forced to secure the right to ... buy a packet of rubber johnnies!" Mentions "Condon Sense" and the installation of condom vending machines on Valentine's Day, Friday 14 February, 1992. Also mentions Clare Watson and Rachel Martin. Also provides address for Condom Sense, PO Box 3367, Dublin 4.

Second page contains newspaper clippings of two articles. First article by Kevin Dawson is from Sunday Tribune entitled "'Condom Sense' campaigners set for Jail" and dated 9 February, 1992. (See item 796 for detailed description). Second article from Gay Community News is entitled "Use Condom Sense" and dated February 1992. Mentions "Condon Sense!" campaign and installation of condom vending machines on Valentine's Day, Friday 14 February, 1992. Reference Charles Haughey (Taoiseach of Ireland) who described "the present law which limits the sale of condoms to chemists, doctors, and clinics as "very outdated and unsatisfactory." Mentions organisations supporting the campaign, such as Dublin AIDS Alliance, GLEN, NLGF and Positively Irish Action on AIDS (UK). Also mentions that "Condon Sense!" is being spearheaded by people involved in AIDS education, including Arthur Leahy (Cork), Rachel Martin and Clare Watson (Dublin) and Angela Savage (Galway). Appeals to readers to come out on Valentine's Day to "sign petitions, write to the Minister for Health, lobby politicians and break the law if that is the only way to give people the means to protect themselves and their health."
