Description

Three newspapers clippings of articles from the Irish Times, Cork Examiner and Sunday Independent.

First page contains two newspaper clippings of articles.
First article from Irish Times is entitled "Group installs condom vending machines" and dated 15 February, 1992. Mentions "Condom Sense" (a campaign for wider availability of condoms, organised by the Association for the Promotion of Sexual Health) and the installation of condom vending machines in nightclubs on St. Valentine's Day. References Rachel Martin who said, "We're not saying that condoms should be distributed like smarties, but that they should be easily accessible to people who may need them. Nobody knows better than a GP like Dr O'Connell [Minister for Health] the extend of the risks facing young sexually active people".

Second article from Cork Examiner is entitled "Condom machine to stay, says publican" and dated 15 February, 1992. Mentions Kieran Mohally of Georgia Browne's pub, Washington Street, Cork City, who "was one of the 10 proprietors in Cork City who agreed to the illegal condom dispensers installed yesterday, in support of the Condom Sense campaign against laws restricting condom availability." Notes that "a rift has developed within the ranks of the Fianna Fáil's youth wing as to whether it should oppose or support the Condom Sense campaign."

Second page contains an article from Sunday Independent by Mark Smith, entitled "Group defines law on condom sales" and dated 16 February, 1992. References a scene from the film "Summer of 42" to describe "the ordeal of purchasing" condoms. Mentions the Condom Sense campaign on Valentine's Day. References Rachel Martins "farming analogy": "If you compare having sex to driving a tractor, then having Condom Sense is like having a roll-bar on that tractor. Without one, you're risking your life."
