Portraits of a Community

Thomas Heising is a Cork based gay activist, graphic artist and runner.

Thomas was born Zambia 1991 and grew up in Denmark.

Thomas moved from Copenhagen to Cork in 2018. In Copenhagen Thomas frequented gay bars and nightclubs in the city while studying at Copenhagen University (Geology and African Studies). He volunteered helping new-Danish citizens with refugee background in Copenhagen.

On moving to Cork Thomas joined Frontrunners. Cork Frontrunners is an LGBT+ running club and is a member of the Frontrunners International movement. Thomas works on a freelance basis with animation and motion graphics, and also volunteers with the Gay Project in Cork.

Thomas strives to raise awareness around racism and the queer community in Cork. He participated in the social media campaign run by Black and Irish during Pride 2021 highlighting queer POCs (People of Colour) in Ireland. He wrote an article Racism and Othering in Queer Communities in the Cork Pride magazine 2021.
