The Athena Swan programme promotes gender equality in colleges.
The UCC Athena Swan Equality Award recognises UCC Alumni who have made a significant contribution to equality.
In 2021 the UCC Athena Swan Award was given to Orla Egan in recognition and celebration of her contribution, through her research, advocacy and activism on LGBTI+ issues, to advancing progress towards greater equality in UCC and in Cork.
This was the third such annual award; previous recipients are Mary Crilly of the Sexual Violence Centre Cork and Naomi Masheti of the Cork Migrant Centre.
