Helen Slattery, Cork Lesbian Activist, in a skip while participating in the renovation of the Other Place LGBT Community Centre in Cork. The building was in poor condition and was renovated by community volunteers prior to opening in 1991.
The Other Place LGBT Community Centre opened in 1991 and provided a safe space and services for the LGBT community. Weekly discos and social events were held in the centre; there was a café, meeting spaces, a bookshop, resource centre and offices.
