Newspaper article (four-page special supplement; pages 55-56) from Sunday World Vol. 14 No. 47, dated February 8th, 1987 and entitled "AIDS The First Irish Survey". Subtitle reads "Today we publish Ireland's first comprehensive survey on the dreaded killer disease AIDS." Pull quote above title reads, "Shock Report Shows: '15% think it can be caught from toilet seats'." Bullet point text under pull quote reads, "The latest victim... Liberace [Władziu Valentino Liberace, American pianist, singer, and actor] who died this week is the latest big name in the showbiz to succumb to the disease." Article states that the "AIDS Report is based on a nation-wide survey commissioned by Sunday World and carried out on a scientific basis by fully-trained interviewers from Lansdowne Market Research." Report highlights "an urgent need for public education on the causes of AIDS" and "calls for decisive action". Page 55 (two page spread) contains a bar chart with percentages of the various ways in which adults believe AIDS can be caught, and a pie chart of percentages of adults who believe sexual responsibility should be taught in school, promotion of condoms, knowledge and fear about AIDS. Pages 56 (two page spread) leads with the title "We're not that worried about catching it" and accompanied by the first computer-generated images of an AIDS virus, magnified 200,000 times.
