Fact pack for Gay Health Action (GHA). Page 1 gives information about Gay Health Action. A voluntary group formed in 1985 by all the gay groups in Ireland. Discusses the need and aims of GHA work since January 1985 and publications. First GHA information leaflet was produced in May 1985, directed towards gay men, with 15,000 printed copies. Importantly notes: "It's the only leaflet on AIDS in Ireland produced by an Irish organisation." Mentions a "Safe-Sex card" was issued in November 1985. Page two refers to a survey among gay men in Dublin on the standards of treatment and attitudes towards patients by "S.T.D Clinics"; monitoring of Irish Media's reporting on AIDS and notes GHA's TV, radio and newspaper contributions; liaisons with Doctors working in the "S.T.D. Clinics" in Dublin, Cork, Belfast and GPs who offer their services to gay people; notes "established links with similar groups to GHA in Britain, North America, and the European Gay Health Care Group based in Holland, as well as other groups in Europe"; and funding from H.E.B grant and Terence Higgins Trust, "the British based equivalent of GHA". Page 3 refers to paying workers, social employment scheme, workshops and conferences, noting "people from T.H.T [Terence Higgins Trust] and two Doctors from San Francisco attend question and answer session in Dublin." Page 4 discusses work in progress and future work projects, noting the publication of "GHA information leaflet No.2 on the HTLV-3 Anti-Body Test." Page 5 discusses the issuing of GHA's Policy and Structure Programme in October. Page 6 contains the Code of Professional Conduct of National Union of Journalists.Page 7 is entitled "The S.T.D. Clinic - An Inadequate Service". Page 8 contains a data table of the percentage of patients who did not receive specified test. Page 9 is entitled "Demands of G.H.A arising from the survey." Pages 10-11 discuss public agencies. Pages 12-16 cover "Media" and their "crucial role in forming public awareness of AIDS and transmitting information to the public at large and to high risk groups in particular." Pages 15-16 discuss how the reporting of AIDS in the Ireland was "distorted" by "stories picked up from the foreign press". Also discusses"The Gay Plague" and challenging "the notion that it is a peculiarly gay disease".
