Description
Newspaper article by John Moore, dated Friday, 28 February, 1992 and entitled "Condom War Over Pubs". Mentions "Condom Sense", a campaign for wider availability of condoms, organised by the Association for the Promotion of Sexual Health. References Claire Watson, Condom Sense chief, who "said the group would continue to defy the law." Notes that condoms can only be sold from chemists, health centres, or family planning clinics, and banned from hairdressers, pubs and clubs. States that "[a]lready it has installed 18 law-busting machines in Dublin, Cork and Galway and yesterday vowed to almost double that number." Also notes that Irish celebrities, such as The Commitments' Maria Doyle, actress Fionnula Flanagan, and singer Christy Moore, were backing the campaign. Refers to the "verbal warnings from the police" and the suspected "self-appointed moral watch dogs reported it to the police."
