Description

Press Release announcing the closure of P.I.A.A. (Positively Irish Action on AIDS). First page states that the Management Committee of PIAA decided to go into "voluntary liquidation" on 10 June, 1996 after the decision of the Inner London HIV Health Commissioners Group (ILHHCG) withdrew all funding from 01 April, 1996. "The organisation will close on June 30th resulting in redundancy of all staff and the loss of the only HIV specific organisation for the Irish community in Britain." Notes that, "the decision to close was in no way a reflection of PIAA's professional competency, but rather they believe that Irish people's needs can be meet in mainstream provision. This is in spite of overwhelming evidence which demonstrates the contrary." Mentions that, "the Management Committee have tried to establish an alternative funding base." Lists the achievements and contribution to the HIV sector and Irish community in Britain over the last six years.
Continued on second page. Mentions the Management Committee and staff team's commitment "to ensure an Irish dimension to HIV work" and, to this end, the production of "an advice and information Directory of Services which aims to respond to the needs of Irish people affected by HIV and provides a wealth of practical advice to professional working in the field and will be distributed to PIAA's clients." References Melaine Pine, Former Chair of the Irish Government's Dion Committee and Siobhan Riordan, Director of PIAA.

Mentions that the Directory can be obtained from: Mark Whittaker, ILHHCG Voluntary Sector Coordinator, 1 Armstrong Way, Southall, Middlesex UB2 4SA.
