This document provides a personal account from Cathal (Charles) Kerrigan of the founding of the Gay Soc in UCC and it's early (unsuccessful) attempts to get recognition from UCC as a college society. It also contains an account of Cathal's experience growing up gay in Cork in the 1970s and 80s and his involvement in the establishment of the Cork Gay Collective and organising various events e.g. National Gay Conference in Cork in 1981, The document then discusses the successful campaign which led to UCC recognising the Lesbian and Gay Society in 1989. The document references various archival documents which were donated by Cathal Kerrigan to the Queer Archive in the National Library of Ireland (not yet digitised).
